Lead | How I Think About Exposure
What I’ve learned:
➡️ completely avoiding lead isn’t realistic
➡️ exposure level matters more than presence
➡️ I focus on reducing high exposure where I can
This is just the overview.... I break everything down below ⬇️

Lead is a heavy metal, and once it enters the body, it can build up over time. It’s been linked to things like neurological effects, developmental issues in children, and toxicity at higher levels.
BUT here’s where the nuance comes in. Lead is naturally present in soil, water, air, and even certain food sources. It can also come from environmental exposure, older infrastructure, manufacturing, and contamination during production. So completely avoiding it isn’t realistic.
This is where I think context really matters. Not every trace amount carries the same level of risk, but higher levels and repeated exposure over time are where the concern really comes in.
My personal approach is to focus on reducing exposure where I can:
✅ avoiding high levels when possible
✅ choosing third‑party tested products (especially daily-use items)
✅ looking for brands that are transparent about sourcing and testing
I do believe high levels are dangerous, but I also think we need to be realistic about everyday exposure. We’re not living in a zero‑exposure environment, so for me it’s more about reducing overall load rather than trying to eliminate it completely.
I’d honestly love to see more research here with a clearer number or scale so we’re not just left guessing what’s actually worth avoiding in everyday life.

I break down ingredients and share low-tox swaps in a simple, no-overwhelm way. I personally check every ingredient list before I share anything, so you can feel confident in what you’re choosing. Mom of 3, so I keep things realistic.
