This is considered a lowtox option. It doesn't have the chemical fumes that most plastic shower curtains have that you may be breathing in. If you'd like a completely non-toxic shower curtain, there are options out there for organic cotton, linen or hemp but they're more work to keep clean and you need great ventilation to prevent mildew/mold from forming on them, in my opinion.
